Best XRP Wallets

By XRP Army Editorial TeamEditorial8 min read

Choosing a wallet is one of the most consequential decisions an XRP holder makes. The wrong choice can mean lost funds, security compromises, or constant friction. This guide compares the leading hardware and software wallets for XRP in 2025, with honest pros and cons for each.

Ledger (Nano S Plus, Nano X)

Ledger is the most-used hardware wallet brand globally. Both current models support XRP via the Ledger Live app. The Nano S Plus is the affordable option (~£70); the Nano X adds Bluetooth and a larger battery (~£130). Strengths: mature software, broad asset support, well-understood security model. Weaknesses: the 2020 customer-data breach (database, not keys) and the 2023 'Recover' service controversy have damaged trust for some users. Buy direct from ledger.com — never second-hand.

Trezor (Model One, Model T, Safe 3)

Trezor is the original hardware wallet brand and a strong Ledger alternative. The Model One is the budget option but doesn't support XRP natively (you need third-party tooling). The Model T and Safe 3 support XRP. Strengths: fully open-source firmware, well-regarded security model. Weaknesses: smaller asset list, less polished mobile UX. Pricing ~£60–180.

Xumm / Xaman

Xaman (formerly Xumm) is the most popular XRPL-native software wallet. Built specifically for XRP and the XRPL ecosystem, it supports XRP transactions, issued tokens, the XRPL DEX, AMM operations and more. Free. Strengths: deep XRPL feature support, slick mobile UX, good for engaging with XRPL DeFi. Weaknesses: it's a software wallet — keys live on your phone. Best used for smaller balances and active XRPL use, paired with a hardware wallet for cold storage.

Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is a multi-chain mobile wallet owned by Binance. It supports XRP alongside hundreds of other assets. Free. Strengths: huge asset list, decent UX, integrated DApp browser. Weaknesses: not XRPL-specialised (no native DEX/AMM support), and corporate ownership by an exchange is a concern for some users. Fine for small XRP balances among other holdings; not ideal as a primary XRP wallet.

Crypto.com DeFi Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask

These multi-chain wallets support wrapped XRP (XRP on Ethereum or other chains) but not native XRPL XRP. If you specifically want XRP on the XRP Ledger, use a wallet that supports XRPL natively. If you want wrapped XRP for DeFi on another chain, these are options — but the wrapping introduces additional smart-contract risk.

The hybrid recommendation

Most experienced XRP holders use a combination: a hardware wallet (Ledger or Trezor) for the bulk of the position, kept offline, plus a software wallet (Xaman) for everyday transactions, AMM participation and smaller balances. This combines maximum security for the long-term hold with usable convenience for day-to-day activity.

Wallets to avoid

Avoid 'XRP wallet' apps with no track record, anonymous developers or aggressive marketing claims. Scam wallets targeting XRP are common because of the high-value holder base. If a wallet asks you to import an existing seed phrase to 'claim airdrops' or 'verify your account', it's a scam — funds will be drained immediately. Stick to the established names above.
